Defensive abilities, turrets and electric walls are her focus EA Play 2019 delivered plenty of Apex Legends news, none more exciting than the announcement of the game’s newest character, Wattson. More than new maps, weapons or a Battle Pass, a new Apex character can shake up everything about the game. From what we saw, Wattson. Electronic Arts revealed what’s coming next to Apex Legends during its EA Play event today in Los Angeles. This includes the new playable character Watson for its second season, which starts on July 2. It is also getting a new weapon and game mode. Apex Legends had a surprise launch on February 4, 2019.
Apex Legends next Legend is Watson, a genius engineer with deployable barriers
During the EA Play livestream today we got our first look at the new Legend joining the Apex Legends roster as part of Season 2. Their name is Wattson and they’ve got the ability to deploy electric barriers to defend their team and limit enemy movement.
The new legend was shown off in a short Overwatch-style animated comic strip which follows a touching message from her father. Wattson and her father were the original creators of the Apex Legends ring and helped create the Apex games in the first place.
Wattson abilities in Apex Legends
Abilities are obviously what many are keen to know, and Watton's are particularly interesting. Her tactical ability is to place deployable shield pylons which form an electic barrier. The barrier automatically lowers when teammates pass through it, letting you choose when to engage enemies. Any foes who travel through are stunned and slowed, as well as being pinged on the map to all memebers of your team, making them easy targets. She has 12 pylons to deploy, letting you build a grid however you like.
Her Ultimate ability lets her deploy a defensive robot that blocks grenades and bombardments, charges friendly shields and boosts Wattson's tactical recharge rate. If you want to hold off an aggressive push, it sounds like Wattson will be the ultimate Legend to join your team, letting you set up a fortress. Respawn has said they want to see just how creative players can be with her abilities.
There's more to come in Apex Legends Season 2, and Respawn has said players should keep their eyes open for changes to Kings Canyon and more over the coming weeks. A new Battle Pass is also on the way, bringing challenges and more when it launches July 2.

Apex Legend’s collection of misfits has already captured the hearts of many thanks to their unique abilities and distinctive personalities, but the new and unknown will always prove more exciting. Respawn has stuffed plenty of subtle hints and easter eggs into Apex Legends’ map. The newly welcomed Octane had a few teases of his own – such as a newspaper clipping – not to mention plenty of leaks, before he was introduced alongside the season one battle pass.
Unfortunately, Apex Legends isn’t as packed with lore and story cinematics for fans to unpick as with games like Overwatch, which means there’s less information to go on. On top of that, while various leaks have revealed a few future characters, it’s likely that a lot of these datamines are showing off little more than concept art. Thanks to a Season Two update from Respawn, however, we do know that we’re guaranteed to get one new Legend at the start of each season.
Regardless, we’ve been exploring Kings Canyon for tips and clues while keeping abreast of all the latest news and leaks. So without further adieu, here’s everything that’s known about future new Apex Legends characters.
Apex Legends Wattson
So when will we meet the next Apex Legend? While a release date isn’t certain, we know it’ll be before the start of season two. Thanks to a slip up from Sony, we know that one more character is planned to release over the next 12 weeks. As to who that may be, all the signs are currently pointing toward a character called Wattson. The mysterious Legend has appeared in promotional content already, such as a newspaper clipping and in the original gameplay trailer alongside a very blurred Octane.
According to datamined leaks, Wattson’s abilities will revolve around tesla traps that work like electricity walls. Apart from that, all we know about Wattson is that she has ties with some of the game’s guns, as her name appears on them. That may not influence her abilities, but it may provide some context to her overall character.
Apex Legends Wattson release date
If Wattson’s does launch mid-season we could expect to see her early May. If not, then it’ll likely be in June as that’s when Season Two will start. As we’ve already stated, Respawn has confirmed that we’ll get a new Legend at the start of each season.

Datamined Apex Legends
Datamines have also dug up character art and ability filenames for several other pending Legends. As to who these future characters could be, we’ve got a list of nine potential Legends to pick from. A Twitter user called Shrugtal claims to have dug up images that represent all of the upcoming heroes, which they found in the game files. A lot of them are, however, not complete. Thanks to ApexLeaksNews, though, we also have their potential names, which are; Crypto, Husaria, Jericho, Nomad, Prophet, Rampart, Rosie, Skunner, and Wattson. Twitter user Frozenfroh put all of the info into a mock up image, which you can see above.
It should be noted, however, that these are leaks and are not guaranteed to happen. In response to those leaks, a Respawn spokesperson took to Reddit to confirm that “there’s stuff in there that is very old, or things we’ve tried in the past and cut… finding this stuff by no means confirms that it’ll ever come out.”

And there you have it, when you can expect new Apex Legends Legends and when they could be coming out. A lot can change in Respawn’s approach, but if its past behaviour is anything to go on, then we should hopefully get a new hero at the start of each season and maybe another in-between.
